I have been offered a used model 22s for sale. Can't locate it on the S&W site at all. Googled it and finally found a reference to some very limited info. Any one out there got one??

It's got a seven inch bbl, no papers or box and only 1 mag. It appears to be about 95% on exterior. Bore looks real good. It sure is heavy! The google search showed that the 22"A" stood for alloy, and "s" for steel.

The guy wants $275, which sounds high to me for used, but he's throwing in the 5" bull bbl, that cost him $150 at brownells, which he says has less than 50 rnds thru it. It is more pristine than the 7"

Any thoughts before I make the plunge? Value? rarity?

That sounds fair especially for the two barrels. The stainless model was made till recently but was more expensive than the alloy models so didn't sell as well. I've had good luck with the 22As' that I've had and all have had decent triggers and shot well.

The "S" stands for stainless steel, not just steel.

The 22Ss are homely looking but they weren't built to look at. They're good economy grade target guns. I like mine better than my Ruger autos mostly because it field strips and reassembles much easier and doesn't need cleaning as often.

There's no "rarity" involved and no demand for them so they shouldn't be priced as collector's items. Even so, $275 is a good price with the extra barrel.
