S&W 22A

I have one (I'm on my third one because like an idiot I keep trading them) and it's a great shooter. I'd recommend it.

I picked up a used one around Christmas time for $189, took my boys out to the range for their first time ever and they loved shooting our 22A-1. They had a BLAST with it.

The recoil buffer was pretty beat up so I emailed S&W to see how to go about getting some more.

Got an email back asking for my mailing address so they could send some out no charge. A few days later the envelope arrived with the buffer, a guide rod and recoil spring. S&W CS ROCKS!!!

This was my first .22 pistol....I eventually traded up because I'm not made of $ and can't keep buying...but, oh, how I'm hoping on the LOTTO...

Had mine for a while now, shoots well.No problems so far.

22A

I've had this for about 6 years. Great gun for fun.

I've owned two of them and they were both jam-0-matics. Second made a trip back to S&W. I really wanted it to work. But even after S&W monkied around with it the problems remained. Very accurate pistol with a nice trigger. Too bad I can't find one that works.

I have one and have used federal ammo and have had lots of failure to fires. I need to try some new ammo but haven't been too happy so far.

I had the same exact problem with mine and finally got rid of it.

22A and A-1

One definitely takes a chance with these upon purchased. I sent one back to SW and it showed little improvement.

I have owned the 22S and two 22A. The 22S with stainless frame was heavy but shot extremely well. I have traded or sold all of the models I bought and moved on.

Gander Mountain has a sale on SW 22 and Beretta. I have owned 3 Berettas. All were better mechanically than SW22A. The Berettas cost less and all the ones I have owned are not 22LR specific. It shoots them all. They remind me of a WWII Jeep.

Got mine back from S&W with a new frame because the original broke above the trigger guard. Iput about 150 rounds of bulk Rem and Federal thru it and the extractor departed. I'm now waiting for parts from S&W who says they are back ordered. Back ordered seems to imply they use a lot of these parts.

22a results

Hi
I've been looking for a first gun for a while now and I've done a lot of research. I've shot the 22a, the Beretta Neos, the Browning Buckmark and the Ruger 22/45. I shot my best with the 22a and the Buckmark.
The 22a will not handle hollow point ammo. I've shot 500 rounds of CCI mini mag and Federal bulk ammo without a FTF. Using my brother in law's 22a and range guns. I bought some Winchester hollow points and got at least 1 FTF with each mag.
The combination of low price and S&W reputation has convinced me. You can get a 22a with a 5 1/2 inch bull barrel at Gander Mountain for $250 (Gander Mountain® > Smith Wesson 22A No Bull .22 LR Semi-Auto Pistol - Firearms > Handguns > Semi-Auto Pistols :). Best of luck.

I've had one now for about 2 years after I traded a Ruger Mark II and some cash for a Redhawk 44. With CCI Mini Mags or Winchester Super, Federal Match and Wolf Match no issues at all and quite accurate.
