Git you some. :D

If I had black widows that big where I lived I would move to a 14story apartment building and hide in the closet

I haven't tried to holster this one, but I have a similar optic on a 66. I took a run of the mill leather holster and cut a big notch in the front to accommodate the sight. Burnished the edges, added a little brown shoe dye and it looks great.

To me, these Quiets are tolerable without muffs, but I'd probably wear them out of habit for an extended plinking session. If you couldn't stand to shoot a few without ear protection, they probably wouldn't have a place in your arsenal.

And then, I've emptied a .44mag revolver in the deer woods and don't remember any discomfort. I wouldn't accept a $5 bill to shoot a single round without muffs at the range.

I guess the Mount Maker isn't going to make any J Frame Mounts. I would get a 317 3" if he did. I don't have the skills for that & don't trust any Smiths around here to drill & tap the Aluminum Top Strap. That's the Ultimate Trail Gun IMO. Lightweight & can still hit at 15-20yrd.

I have a 317 with 3" barrel and after market crimson trace grips. I want to love this gun but I don't. I find that the aluminum cylinder erodes too much. After a few hundred shots, erosion in the cylinder holes interferes with normal back and forth movement of cartridges. On firing, the empty case is pushed back against the recoil shield. Normally, the empty case would bounce off the recoil shield and move forward a bit. But with cylinder erosion the empty cases do not bounce forward again. The empties drag against the recoil shield which makes it difficult to cock for the next shot. When you get 3 or 4 cases dragging against the recoil shield you cannot cock again and the gun is totally jammed. Twice I have sent my 317 back to S&W for repair. Twice they replaced my cylinder. The second time I asked them to replace with a steel cylinder, but they gave me another aluminum cylinder. I don't shoot this gun very much now, because I don't want to have to send it back again.

D*mn! That's not exactly a ringing endorsement. I would call S&W and demand that they change it to a SS 63 cylinder!!! Or, they can do an exchange to you and send you a M63 directly to your door & keep their lemon of a 317. Just do that & have a gun that will take a beating. Get a Supervisor CS on the ph.
Is it a N/L? That might change things a bit. Sorry to here of your problems. I hardly fire my 317's and I clean them w/ M Pro 7 because of the Finish. That's why I got a 63, so I could volume shoot with Wally World Bulk and have sights to dial in the bulk ammo that each kind/brand shooting to a wildly different POI.
