S&W 32-20 M1896 Barrel

I found a S&W barrel for a model 1896 and its "Factory New" without a locking lug and no serial number, beautiful. I bought it as I was searching for a barrel for my shoutout 1905. An impulse buy, granted. I have to ask the question! will it fit on a 1905 model without major fitting problems? Your thoughts are much appreciated.

The barrel shank is smaller than the 1905 unfortunately it won't fit. I made the mistake of buying a 32-20 1902 barrel and its diameter is also smaller than the 1905's.

The barrel shank dimensions changed with the Model 1902 1st change. Anything after that change is generally interchangeable. That is the same time as the barrel contour change to increase the diameter of the contact area between the frame and barrel.
