Can anyone explain why my 325PD is unfinished under the grip? I bought it used and was just curious. I own other PD revolvers and they do not look like this. Photo was taking in the middle of taking off side plate. So I know the screws are missing.

Does that contour EXACTLY match the grips that were on the revolver?

If YES, then I expect that is due to some interaction between the grips and the metal or some liquid that got trapped between the grips and the metal

Yes they are the stock grips. The grips are made by Ahrends Grips. I do believe it is contoured to the grips. Your ideal about the grips may be the very answer. I would think if it was liquid I would have found some rust, but I didn't. Both of your ideals beat all I have heard so far. I have wrote S&W, but no answer as of yet.

Thank you so much because I believe you are on the right track.

The frame is made of an aluminum alloy, so it won't rust. It will oxidize. I don't believe S&W will refinish that. I'm pretty sure that model has been discontinued, but S&W may have some frames on hand. If so, I'd have it replaced. The current frame could be an issue if you wanted to use different grips.

I will ask them when they respond to my email. It being a holiday they may have shut down for the three day weekend. Thank you.

I am very curious. What was S&W's response? What was the cause and their action to help?
