Gary/HK

Gary,
SCSW #3 lists Product Codes 163814 (silver) and 163816 (PD - black) as having the IL, made 2002-04. The 342-1 revision added the lock in 2001.

As for the 296 - they're out there!

Picked it up this morning. I must correct the original asking price was $689. My cost was $589. Padded case and a trigger lock came with it. Will post pictures later.

I picked up a LNIB (unfired) 342Ti no IL (also with DC7's help) almost 2 years ago now.

I probably should have kept it as a collector, but I needed a LEO BUG and off duty carry piece.

In carrying it since then and qualifying with it several times, I LOVE it.

I carry it all the time as a BUG. So light in an ankle holster or in the side pocket of my flight suit, I never even notice it is with me.

Off duty I usually prefer to carry a small semi auto that can be COMPLETELY concealed. Found out I usually also kept the 342Ti with me. When warm weather is around and I can't carry the auto concealed, the 342Ti is AlWAYS with me. Sometimes I'll even leave the semi auto in my truck lock box and keep the 342Ti with me just to avoid any chance of it being detected.

Shooting it is not a big deal. I'm not very recoil sensitive, but I carry the Speer short barrel 38 loads in it. part of our qual course is at 25 yards and it even does ok out there.

You should see the faces and rolling eyes of the young officers when I bring it out for qualifying shoots. They always assume I'll be slower holding them up)and score less than they do with their tupperware G guns.

Being older, does not always mean slower or less accurate.(

Good buy and enjoy it.

Finally got around to taking some pictures. Also a question. I looked at the S&W Products page at their website. I could not find the 342 AirLite Ti there, did they stop making them?

I bought one in 1999 when they first came out with wood grips. It has ridden in my front pocket almost everyday since, at work and when just out. Great gun, you hardly know it's there and NO LOCK!

AJ it looks like you walked into a nice one there.. I haven't realy ever heard anything but good about these revolvers..Just Lite weight perfection.. There do have some recoil with +Ps but that's to be expected with the 11.5-12oz weight..
That's the beauty of these I drop it in my pocket & almost forget it's there..
My #1 pocket revolver, My 642 is realy jelouse

HEADKNOCKER, thanks for the kind words. When I carry my 342 I barely know it is there. I also have a 442-1 in nickel that barely gets any use now. Part of my question was: Did S&W stop making the 342? I can't find it on their website.

I believe that the 340 or 340PD would be the closest thing to the 342Ti..
I think they changed the model # when they started using Scandium in the Aluminum Alloy & made them in 357 Magnum..
The Pre Lock 342Ti is a Must have, Like you I have an AirWeight & it gets no use anymore but isn't going anywere,
It's happy locked away in a case with my 940

I carry my 940 at Alot of Gunshows to Just Show It Off..
It's Not For Sale UNLESS you have $1000
I notice your Case is Blue inside were mine is Grey...Nice Find AJ..Probobly the Best Carry Weapon You'll ever have..

Gary,
Thanks for the info. No desires to get a 340. Doubt I need a .357 in something this light. If I need a .357 snubbie, I have a Model 19 2 inch in one of my safes.

May loan the 442-1 to my Son-In-Law as a BUG. His department is thinking about having their officers carry 24/7. However, he likes black plastic auto....read Keltec.

Probably ran out of either the blue or gray material and switched. The outside covering is gray.

AJ

The Outside covering of my case is Black??
I hear you on the 357 magnum, I have a Dan Wesson 15-2 w/ 2-1/2" barrel & it's a great shooter but I wouldn't want to carry it for an extended period of time, Just too Heavy Compaired to an Airweight or Airlite..

This one isn't mine, i lifted it of the web.

OK Rodger That!!
I just wondered why anyone would have polished the case hardning off the trigger?? It looks good but would have removed the case hardening & made the part weaker..
I like the front insert sight, Thought about ordering one from S&W the next time I order but realy want to keep my NIB 342Ti as factory as possible, but I'm gonna Carry this little beast.

I just got a silver 342Ti pre-lock off of gunbroker. I am thinking of having everything but the cylinder refinished in black by Smith & Wesson's Performance Center. Gentleman I spoke with said they could do it. What do you'all think?

I also want to replace all of the MIM. Has anyone done this or have suggestions on who would do a good job?

Also, the seller said the trigger had a hollow back (MIM) - can a MIM trigger still be case hardened?

I called S&W's Performance Center and asked if they could refinish a used silver 342Ti (less the titanium cylinder) to a factory black finish, the same as a 342PD or M&P, with the white lettering. They said they could do that.
