Im not really one for show and tell but im just so proud of this recent acquisition I cant help myself. I dont really search out rarer collectible guns but when I saw this one I had to have it. Its a 627-0 .357 magum born on, you guessed it, 1989. Features are 5 1/2 inch barrel, checkered topstrap, unfluted cylinder, target hammer and trigger and combat grips. Supposidly its unfired and I got the original box, papers, and cleaning kit. My main reason for buying it was I have a 1989 chevrolet iroc z and thought it would be neat to have a revolver of the same year. Any additional info anyone wants to share please feel free as I dont really know much about it. Thanks!!

Very nice! It was the second 627 variation; reportedly there are a few 627s (without the -0) that have smaller bolt notches on the cylinder, but the increased mass of the unfluted cylinder caused lockup issues and led to the larger notches. Enjoy!

Very nice,
Can you post some pics of your top strap checkering ?
Interesting as IIRC it is the only SS version to have the checkered top strap like its blue sibling the old school Model 27,
Seems like a small thing but the checkered top strap was the major cosmetic feature that separated the Reg Mag , Pre Model 27 and later model marked 27's from all other S&W revolvers.

Modern versions had some sort of shallow copy of the checkering done by laser or roll stamp but it is very different than previous versions.

That is one fine looking revolver. I have to ask how does it shoot?? Have fun and shoot lots.

There were around 250 527s manufactured and just about 5000 627-0s made. I believe it is the only model with a -0 designation in the model number. I liked it so much I bought one for each of my sons. I have shot mine and have been tempted to get one for a safe queen, but they they have gotten pretty expensive lately.

Congratulations on getting a great gun to shoot or collect, as you see fit.

I bought one myself back in 1989. I still have it and enjoy shooting it. The revolver is a tack-driver and the weight really makes full-house .357 shooting pleasant. My only complaint is that I wish it had a longer cylinder (like the 686) so I could load 180 grain ammo to my satisfaction. Here is a photo of mine (middle revolver) with a 657-2 and a 686-3. I still have the combat stocks in the box...I removed them the day I bought the gun and they haven't been touched since!
