"Date of birth" seems to be a popular question on this site, so I'm hoping someone might have an answer. What would be the manufacture year/date for serial #365356? It's blued, 6" barrel, and has walnut grips with no medallion.
Also, what is considered the best source/book on the pre-war M&P revolvers?
Thanks.

1915-1942 241704-700000 That would probably make yours in the early to mid 1920's. The all round best book on S&W is "The Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson" by Jim Supica and Richard Nahas

If your interested enough to spend $30 the exact ship date can be obtained by down loading a form at the Smith&Wesson web site and mailing it in.

Welcome to the forum! I have one numbered 1374xx that dates to 1906 and another 4039xx that looks to be late 1921/early 1922. This gives you a general idea. Both are sweet shooters, enjoy that long action!

Should be about 1920 - 1921. Presumably the grips are the convex style, in which
the wood curves upward in the region where there would otherwise be a medallion.
The only dates we have acceess to are the shipping dates, not the actual date of
manufacture.

Your best source of information on these guns would be the books by Roy Jinks, or
the one by Neal & Jinks.

Later, Mike Priwer
