My dad has an S&W .38, Serial# 612xx, double action, 3" barrel, top break, 5 shot... We don't know the exact age of the gun, but my Dad thinks it early 1900's...

He's had it "in the shop" for the past 7 months and the gun smith couldn't get any pictures for us, but he told us the part numbers that the gun needs:

-- hammer: part# 330220

-- hammer stud nut (nickel plated): part# 300129B

-- trigger spring: part# 327840

There are no readable markings on the barrel...

Any help locating these parts would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

Welcome to the Forum. I'm not sure where your gunsmith got those part numbers, they don't sound like S&W factory part numbers, however the factory has not carried parts for your gunsince before WW2. You can try Gun Parts Corp. or Popperts gun parts. Google them for their web pages. Gun Digest and the NRA both publish parts diagrams for your gun and show expolded drawings for assembly & disassembly, etc.
If there are no readable marlings on the barrel, your gun has been heavily buffed and refinished in the past, so value is minimum. Probably less than $100 as a parts gun. Cost of the parts you need will far exceed the guns value after repair, so unless the gun has sentimental heirloom value, you may want to reconsider any repairs. Ed.

Numrich-Gun Parts Corp.- is selling out most of its top break parts, and they are getting very hard to find. Try Jack First online...they might have what you need, but those numbers don't make sense to me, either...you need part names.

Good luck.
