Just picked up this nice 3913 today.

Had just the curved base magazine but several weeks ago I found a new flat base magazine at a Gander World store for $7.00. Bought it to use with my CS9 but little did I know I would find an actual 3913 a few weeks later.

Got it with the original box for $450. Been reading the various reviews on the internet tonight and it looks like I really lucked out.

Love my new (to me) CS9 with the modified 3913 grips on it. Now I have a nice companion piece. I can't believe how great these 3rd generation S&W's are. It is kind of like, "Where have they been all my life".

Will give S&W a call tomorrow and find out what year it was born.

Very nice 3913. And a good price.

I like my 3913LS a lot. I'm keeping my eyes pealed for one of the flush mags, but so far no luck.

I also went the other way, and bought a 9 round mag for a 909, 952, 3904, 3906, 3944, 3946 that fits the 3913. An outfit on ebay offers an extender sleeve to fill the gap between the bottom of the mag well and the base plate on the 9 round mag.

I figure the 9 round mag would be good to carry for a reload.

Read several posts about using grease instead of oil on the rails of the 3913 and the CS9.

Seems like the latest CPL products would negate the need for grease. However, if there has been problems with galling in the past, I don't want that to happen to my guns.

Any thoughts on this?

Trooper Joe, congrats on the 3913! Fine nine!

I was told......back around 2001? - by the local S&W LE rep to only use grease on the aluminum framed S&W's as oil/CLP did not adhere well to the anodized aluminum frames.

I have my off duty/court gun 3913 that was fired a lot with only CLP on the rails. It shows A LOT of wear.

My CS9/CS45 and 457 have been shot many thousands of rounds and have only seen TW25b grease on their rails - the rails all look new. And all of them have high round counts.

I would only use synthetic grease. Good luck! Hope this helps. Regards 18DAI

Sweet.................. a 39xx has been my every day carry since 1990. Carried in a either a Milt Sparks Summer Special or Executive Companion!

"New" models are just different..... not necessarily better!!!!!
If it ain't broke............

Riddle me this...

Sorry to derail (de-RAIL, get it?) the thread but it seems we're also discussing grease. When I got into shooting, I bought a pile of different types of grease, strongly believing it made more sense than oil on most areas of semi-autos, particularly the rails. Years later, I'm about 1/3 through the first jar which is Slip2000 EWG. So far, it seems to have served me well on everything but a .22 with weak ammo (replaced it with oil and the gun will now run anything).

So, my question is whether there's really an important difference between various brands of grease. Should I really toss all this stuff and switch to TW25b?

TW25b has been around since Christ was a carpenter. At one time Sig used it exclusively and my former D-boy ex-brother in law said they used it too.

As you know, I'm a creature of habit. ;) So I continue to use it, because it works. But there are probably other products out there as good or maybe even better. Dunno..... Regards 18DAI

Jeppo and BAM-BAM y'all know very well that Christ doesn't carry a 3913.

He used the TW25b on his 1006. ;) And St Peter uses it on his 4506-1. Or so I'm told. Regards 18DAI

This talk of grease reminds me of that black Gunslick stuff that came with the Outer's gun cleaning kits that were metal and later plastic. Cost a couple bucks back in the late 60s. That goes back a ways!!

Still have some tubes of that around. I use it on the 3rd gens in high load sliding/camming areas like inside the frame, and the underside of the slide where the hammer gets pushed down, and the barrel bushing. Most of mine are steel frames, so oil gets used on the rails.

Congrats on the nice 3913 Trooper Joe! Considered by many folks (myself included) to be the finest conceal carry model out there. As much as I love my CS9, there's a 3913/3914 in my holster more often than not, no matter the season.

Like Cal44, I prefer to use the 9-round 909/3906 mags for reloads, and if you can find one of the flush-fit, steel baseplate 7-round mags, jump on it! They make your 3913 the same height as a CS9.

18DAI turned me on to TW25b years ago and I use it on all of my S&W 3rd Gens. You don't need much on the rails, enough to feel but not so much that you can see white globs of it. And be sure to get the MC25 cleaner as well, it's a pleasant change from some of the harsher chemical solvents, and does a great job removing all the TW25b before re-applying.
