Anyone have ideas on getting the rail off w/o marring the frame?

chances are high there is already an abrasion mark on the frame when the accessory rail was riveted to the frame.

the removal is drilling out the rivet head where the soft rivet can be punched through.

center punch the center of the rivet head and start small, mark your bit so you dont go too deep and progressively use a larger drill bit.

the rivets are aluminum and drill easy, so no 1" hammer drills.
 
I like it with the rail. Why not sale that one and buy one w/o the rail.

Or, buy a no rail and have the pair.

I agree the 3913 and 3953 were probably one of the finest pistols SW made. If it bugs you sell it and buy a older model that is a little smoother looking, get a trigger job and crown the barrel then you just about have the best. I got 1200 for one and I'm teed off at myself for selling it.
