I just received my concealed handgun carry license and I was looking for the most concealable 40 M&P with an inside the pants (not pocket) concealment holster. Would the standard be to hard to conceal with the proper holster? I have held both the compact and standard M&P and the standard holds better. Is the a mid class of M&P that I have not found? I almost purchased the Glock 23 (mid class) but the high side of the the pistol grips fell right on my fingers and readjustment of my fingers into the grooves was uncomfortable. My personal info is height 5"11" weight 240 lbs. I would appreciate any information I can get to help me make the best educated purchase. Thanks Marty

First Of All....Welcome to the S&W forum!

I love my M&P 40. Nothing shoots better, and that's the most important thing, in my opinion.

You will find and hear alot of advice here in regards to holsters. I think most folks end up with alot of extra holsters til they find the one that is the most pleasingly comfortable with.

I'm a Glock guy who now has several M&P 40's. I normally carry a Glock 27, but now I'm carrying the new M&P 40 Shield in my waistband. I also have an M&P 40 pro with a 5" barrel that equals the full sized Glocks. I believe that you might find that the regular M&P with the 4"+ barrel is pretty close to the mid-sized Glocks like the 22. I can't CC anything more than the subcompacts, so I don't even try to stick a full size M&P or the Glock 22 inside my waistband. Probably doesn't help you any, but I got to brag about my guns...& isn't that what this is all about anyway???

Thanks for the inputs but I really need some more comments. Some one please match up the mid class M&P (10 RDS) with a highly concealable IWB holster. I would even carry the full size (15 RDS) M&P if a IWB holster would be concealable. Any and all comments welcome.

I love my 40c. I used to carry a full size M&P45 but had too much handle for my taste trying to conceal but the 40c is perfect. I would have gotten a 45c but a 40c came up for trade for the exact thing I was trying to trade away (Glock 23), so I went for it as I didn't want the Glock and wanted my M&P back.

You could carry a m&p shield but sounds like it might be too small for u as its a small single stack pistol. I used to carry the glock 23 but have since went to carrying the PPS .40 cal and just ordered the shield 9 cause i'm a smaller guy . I plan on switching out between the shield & the pps

Went to my local gun store again yesterday and reviewed the shield, compact, and the standard. Once again the only pistol that felt comfortable in my hand was the standard. I then tried on a Fobus Paddle OWB holster with the standard M&P (15 shot clip) in it. Overall they concealed pretty darn good. I am also thinking about purchasing the Galco Summer Comfort IWB holster but I have yet to see one in my local gun shops. Any thoughts on either one of these holsters? Still looking for opinions, I know that they are out there somewhere. Come on and help a newbie out! Thanks, Marty

Love my MP .40! ...I'm somewhat of an artist with it!...Its getting broke in now and I'm using it to draw faces on targets at 15 yards!

I bought my MP .40 two weeks ago and quickly put 50rounds through it. I looked at a Glock 23 as well. The Glock felt like a block of plastic. The MP "formed" to my hand and I was sold. I bought a Blackhawk OWB holster for the range and I believe I'm going to get a Galco Doubletime IWB/OWB holster. I love this pistol but I kind of wish I bought the Shield instead because of it's smaller size. The wife said "well, go get a Shield too" and keep the MP 40 for HD. I truly love that woman.

I use a comtac Minotaur iwb holster for my full size m&p 40 and I love it

Since I already have several pistols, my wife isn't as understanding. Just like the SW 40 M&P you have, KEEP HER!

There is a small company called Hidden Hybrid Holsters

All holsters are handmade and molded to the specific firearm they are to be used for. What I like about them is that they can be used as an IWB holster, or the clips can be easily removed and it can be used as an OWB holster. Now I have not tried a lot of holsters out, but I can say this one is very comfortable foe all day carry. Customer service and build quality are also top notch. I have one for my Shield and and thinking hard about getting one for my new full size M&P tp use at the range. Check them out on YouTube.

I use a Sticky Holster for my M&P40c and used to use a Remora for my former M&P45 full size which I traded off. I like the Sticky better than the Remora. It holds better and it is thinner material.

I carry both the M&P 40c and the Glock 23 in an IWB holster. I would suggest going to a range and renting both and fire a hundred rounds or so through each one to get the feel. To me the 40c is a bit jumpier in the hand than the 23 but I think they are both great guns.

As for holsters I have a crossbreed super tuck and a white hat holster and they are both great holsters. You can't go wrong with either one.

Well, I made my first decision and purchased the Galco Summer Comfort IWB holster for my M&P 40 full size pistol. It was an internet purchase and paid $58.36 plus $6.24 for shipping. It came to the house in four days via Fedex. The leather was a little stiff out of the box but following the directions it quickly conformed to the proper sizing. I wore it all afternoon sitting, standing, and walking and it was very comfortable. This holster when wore at the 4 o'clock position is very concealable and is held tight between my body and pants. My pants did draw down a bit on my strong side but I guess it just because I am a little shall we say pear shaped at 5' 11" and 240 pounds. Suspenders would help alot if I were to use them under my shirt but then that brings another problem during personal times ;-}. All in all, I an very happy with the Summer comfort both for the fit and price.
