what serial numbers had the cocking indicators? also is there a site where i can find the year by the serial number?

My Dad's in the 41xxx range from about 1962 has the cocking indicator.
The SCS&W 4th has tables that will give you extrapolate at year.

All of them from the beginning in 1958 came with the cocking indicator. I am not sure where the cutoff line is with that option.. You can also go to Rimfire Central which has a date list for the M41's on their site as well. Myself I do enjoy having it on my 1958 year m41 a lot.
As noted above - cocking indicator started with first issue 3001 and thru (appx.) A475000
Re: "year by SN" - Jinks/S&W for specific SHIP date for your SN. For various reasons, shipment was not in SN order (although often close).
Not common, but 2-4 years difference in ship dates are seen - sometimes later SN first.

I believe that the M41 stopped coming with the Cocking Indicator around 1977 - 1978. One of my friends has one made not too much earlier than mine and his has one, I don't. Mine was made in 1979 and his about 1977 or 1978.
