Well this past weekend I took my conceal carry class for IL. The range qualifications consisted of 30 rounds total, 10 rounds each at 5, 7 & 10 yards. The target is one of a human torso with circles of center mass of 7 (outer ring) to 10 (inner ring) and then x in the center. To qualify you must get 21 out of 30 shots in the 7 ring on inward.........anything outside of the 7 ring does not count. The weapon I chose to qualify with was my Smith & Wesson Model 439 9mm. Prior to this I never shot this weapon as I got it around the beginning of the year from my Uncle and haven't had the opportunity to shoot it. My shoots were off to the left of center mass, however I did manage to get 27 out of 30 shots to count. The other 3 hit the target but hit outside of 7 ring. I only manage to shoot the 30 rounds with it but it shot quite well and was pleased with it's performance.

It was fun shooting it, and knowing I haven't been to the range in over a year and that I was new to shooting this particular firearm, I was quite pleased with it's performance, and with the fact I managed to qualify first try with it. May not have done perfect but done good enough to where the instructor commented on how good I done. I'm planning another range trip in the next couple weeks, and I can't wait to go and actually shoot it some more.

Some may consider it a difficult pistol to shoot with but I found it quite easy on shooting and an overall good pistol. Maybe it's just because I've been shooting since 2003 and have shot a wide variety of pistols, rifles & shot guns, but especially pistols in all calibers of .25 auto up to .45 auto, but to me it was an easy, fun and quite manageable firearm. I'm also sure if I would have been to the range in the past year a couple times and would have had prior experience shooting the 439, that I would have done better yet on target.
