I see nobody is rushing in with an answer.....
Anyway, I've never heard of one. The serial number looks to be right in the middle of the British order and all those were 6 1/2". (Any military acceptance/proofs on it?)
Odds are it's been chopped but the only sure answer is a letter.

Post some pictures, and we can make a better guess. With S&W you can never be sure what they might have made. They even made Model 29s with NO barrels! Ed.

Dick, is it possible that someone has rechambered it in 45acp? and made it into a concealed carry? I bought a 1937 Brazilian that way a long tome ago before I wanted to "collect" and I hadn't realized how badly it had been modified from original. Would love to see some pics.455kid
