It is a cool pistol. Hopefully I'll get to shoot it soon! Been looking at DAO for awhile. Wanted to try one out. Finally found a decent condition and decent price!
You are very fortunate. I note that the 4566 is very popular on this forum with it DA/SA. I prefer the DAO because you only have to master one trigger press. I have a 4586 and it is capable of more accuracy than I am able to wring out of it. It digests my 230 grain FMJ reloads as well as what then was our issue load, the Federal 230 grain HST.
All three of my favorite DAO 45acp pistols have been discussed.
For years I've described my pair of M4586 pistols as my "go-to" pistols, they shoot fantastic, are accurate, are hell for stout, and with properly made holsters they carry just fine.
Here's an old pic showing a handful of DAO Third Gen pistols, the M4586's are shown here in the upper left and right.
Here's another pic showing the three sizes, all are great...
I've really come to appreciate the DAO 3rd Gen guns. I have 2 5946's, 2 3953's, and a 6946. I am always looking for a 4586, since I love my 4566. One of these days I'm gonna get one.
A 4586 was my house gun for a long time. I sold it on this forum, because I prefer TDA, but it is a fantastic pistol, and hopefully is serving its new owner perfectly.
I have two 4586's in my safe. Both LEO guns from J'ville NC police Department.
They're great heavy guns and would make excellent anchors for 25 ft pontoon boat.
You either hate 'em or love 'em. I'm in the latter category.
All of the S&W third generation 45 ACP handguns are excellent firearms. I was lucky to obtain a 4506 back in the day. It has been a solid performer for decades. May yours serve you well.
