Hello everyone,

I ran across a Smith I have not seen before today at my LGS, it was a newer model 520 7 shot TI cylinder 4" L frame gun. I did a little searching and did not turn up much, I know they were not made for to long and it has the lock. What do you think the going rate for something like this is? It is listed for $599 and dont think there is any wiggle room on the price. I like weird guns but I dont know about this one, I usually try to buy no lock guns but.......

You have come across the S&W 520 .357 magnum model of 2005. I know they were cataloged for a few years starting in 2005 and probably listed for around $500-$550.

My LGS listed a ANIB example last year for $650 and it didn't sit on the shelf long.

Interesting, I still dont know if I want it because its a neat gun or if its kind of rare. This is the first of his model I have seen in the wild.

I would like to have one, but have not found one in my area recently. The last one I saw, probably 8 months ago, was priced at $625 or $650, I cannot remember exactly and I passed on it. But now, I probably would have bought it. Good luck with your decision.

No one else have anything to add? Someone else out there has to have one.

I have only seen one used model in person, guy had 699 on it.
He had it in a PC box, with no sticker so I don't know if it was original.
Aside from knowing that I wasn't going to pay that much for it I know very little about the gun.

Here is my model 520

I found this one on GB a few months ago.
S&W made this as a replacement for the K frame model 19.

Thanks everyone, I want to go take a look at it tomorrow at the LGS if its open, I did not get to handle it the other day. The one I saw was a little different than Florida Guy's this one did not have the ejector shroud. I found a pic on here from Dale53 and his was like the one I saw at the store in this thread (http://smith-wessonforum.com/s-w-revolvers-1980-present/121973-model-520-s-w.html) second post. Hey Florida Guy if you dont mind me asking, how much did you give for yours?

and....dont forget the original model 520...i just picked up one of these...3000 were made for the new york state police... at the last minute they changed their mind and went with another model...the original is the only 357mag.that S&W ever built on the N-frame with combat sights...it's somewhat scarce...i have no idea why they later used the same model number...the originals were built in 1980

Yep there is the org 520, but not the subject of this thread.....Thanks

In 08, my wife told me I could buy a gun at Christmas. My LGS had a stainless model 619, and a 520. As I am a proponent of fighting/carry guns having fixed sights due to a certain Mr. Murphy lurking around every corner, I went with the 619.

I have never seen another 520 in person at any show or store here. I haven't seen many 619's either, but not a single 520.

I went back and looked at it again, I made a mistake, it does have an ejector shroud. I was also impressed with the feel of the trigger, it did feel good but I was not happy with the exterior finish. The frame looked blueish and the barrel looked black, it had aftermarket rose wood looking laminate grips. After I pay off my 696 that I have on law-a-way I may go back and look at it again if its still there. I still dont know about it though. Thanks everyone for your help.

This thing is still on my mind,,,,,,,may have to go visit it again....?

I never understood why the half-lug L frames weren't more popular. Frankly, I much prefer the look on barrels more than 3".
