I have a 581, 4" barrel, no dash, no M, factory nickle, (yes it has the N stamped on the frame). I would say it is in very good to excellent condition in every way. It does not have the factory grips. It has some nice wood grips that fit perfectly. I have shot it with the hottest factory loads I could get and some hot hand loads. It never pierced a primer or failed to fire in any way, so I did not sent it back to S&W for the modification. The action is smooth as glass, with factory springs. It is accurate.

I know what I paid for this pistol used from a private owner about 10 years ago (it was not a whole lot). My question is what is the ball park value of this revolver today? Not what some gun store will give me in trade. Does anyone have an estimated value.

One has been listed on one of the auction sites at $1250 and hasn't sold for quite some time. I'd say $800+/- depending on condition would be about right. Where I shop I'd expect to see it priced between $900-$1000 and negotiable from there. Good luck.
