I have seen a number of these for sale. I suspect most are police trade ins.

Please give me the good and bad features of this gun.

Thanks.

I loved mine and regret having to sell it .:(
I am hoping to get another 3rd gen. I may sell my glock. It just isn't doing it for me

Funny you should say that...I sold my G19 yesterday. After shooting my 5906, I decided I could do without the Glock;)

The 5906 is an outstanding weapon. It's very reliable, accurate, has low recoil(because of the weight) and the cost of clean examples is very reasonable in my opinion. You get a lot of gun for not a lot of money. Replacement parts are available and it's just a good looking gun. I don't really see a downside.

I have two 5906s. Here is one I got from CDNN that I have polished a little with Mother's polish.

I bought one about three weeks ago, with the intended purpose of shooting it in USPSA Production Division. The curved grips made it really to big for my smallish hands. Bought a set of straight S&W grips (under $20.00) and now it fits perfectly. So far I am very happy with it. Seems to be a sturdy well made pistol, easy to shoot, decent trigger, reasonable accuracy, and the heavy is not a bad thing for shooting USPSA.
I am not going out and sell any of my Glocks, (well maybe the G-35).

The S&W Model 5906 is a 3rd Generation Semi-Automatic from S&W. Introduced in the 1980s, it was S&W's entry into the Wondernine market. They had previous pistols but the 5906 is the highest piece of tech from S&W's factory production lines.

A 100% stainless steel design of a traditional double action pistol. Caliber is 9mm and magazine capacity with factory mags is either 10rd or 15rd. With some very nice aftermarket Mec-Gar you can get 17rd to 20rd mags. A bit on the heavy side, recoil is very low and it has a very smooth double action and very light single action trigger. Trigger reset on the single action is by far one of the best I've ever shoot.

If you really want a value, keep a look out for the TSW line. Full box rails and a beefier built frame and dust cover makes it a great pistol for the used market. MSRP on them was $800-$900 but on the used market they are around $350. Comes with or without a light rail.

I have a .40 S&W version, the 4006TSW and it's a great pistol. Can't go wrong with a 5906. Good guns and if you treat them right. They'll treat you and you grand kids right.

I found one here at a local GT Distributors. I can buy it for $379 out the door. Looks to be in very good condition, little visible signs of wear. Finish is great, no flaking or spotting of any kind, and the feed area looks new. Only wear I can find is on the ejector part of the slide, and very slight. Looks to have been shot little, carried little, and taken very well cared of. I've never has a S&W, only a Bennelli B76 (sold years ago) and a Glock 19 (current), but have read these (5906's) are great weapons. This would be for CC and home use along with the 19.

Is this a good price for this gun? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

I just bought a used LEO 5906 from CDNN last week for $299 and it is in way better condition than I was expecting. The inside looks like new. I put a few hundred rounds through it already and it works perfect. It goes nicely with my 3913.:)

CDNN 5906's

Sounds like everyone is happy with these so far.

likely the most durable 9mm pistol ever made.
and with the good as usual S&W trigger accuracy is more than adequate.
Kel-Tec makes their folder carbine in a model that takes same magazines.

They really are great guns. I've had this one almost a year now, and over 2000 rounds through it in that time.

This pic is just after it came back from S&W for an extractor replacement, "tune-up" and the 3rd Gen action job.

The 5906 is just a great pistol in every regard. I've owned one for around 20 years, but not the same pistol. The last one I bought was NIB and bought it at a gunshow for $420 OTD. A little high, but was unfired, I'll be keeping this one.
