Does anyone know the width of the rear sight on the S&W 624?

I am planning to put different sights on my S&W 624 and need the width of the rear sight as it comes from the factory to be able to proceed. t pick up the black sights so I am going with a red front ramp sight and a rear sight with a white outline.

thanks

I'll dig one out and measure it if you haven't gotten an answer by the time I get home from work.

Do you need the width of the notch, the blade, or the assembly?

You didn't say if your 624 was a 4" or 6.5", so I measured both because I could. :D

4" sights:

Rear notch width: .125"
Rear slider blade width: .610"
Leaf body (wide part, including windage screw): .710"
Leaf body (narrow part, on top of frame): .280"
Rear slider blade height: .136"
Front sight blade width: .125"
Front sight blade height: .278"

6.5" sights:

Rear notch width: .126"
Rear slider blade width: .605"
Leaf body (wide part, including windage screw): .715"
Leaf body (narrow part, on top of frame): .280"
Rear slider blade height: .160"
Front sight blade width: .125"
Front sight blade height: .275"

Hope this helps....

I have a 4" 624 inbound that I would like to put a front sight with a red insert front sight blade and a white outline rear sight. I am going to have this done because I cannot pickup the flat black front sight or the rear sight.

I have a Lew Horton 3" barrelled roudbutt model 624 that came with sights like this.

Before you pay for new sights, do a forum search for 1127. (just the number)

1127 is the part number for Testor's blaze orange model paint. That search will bring up quite a few threads about painting your sights at home and many of them contain pictures. I've done it on several revolvers and it makes quite a difference.
