S&W 625-10 .45 APC

Dave,
Thanks for the post. My wife has a 625-2 with a 4" barrel and she loves it.

Your project sounds interesting. Did you remove the rear adjustable sight? I want to stay with the lighter weight frame, but if you could send pics I'd like to see it.

I've often thought of a fitz special 1917 or brazilian with a 3 1/4" barrel.

I've come to be quite interested in 3" or less 45 acp wheelguns.

I also have a 325sc (clear cote version of 325pd) with a 2 3/4" barrel.

Not to ignore the person who asked the $1450 question, I think it's a bit much. Maybe not in California, but for me it is.

Correction, the one I bought for $700 was WITHOUT the original performance center case.

Dave
While I appreciate your value of the gun, I have all original paper work, including warranty card, original case, and an option many did not pursue, the Leather Performance Center holster made specifically for this fine firearm. I think it is a fair price. The gun cost right at 1200 new and smith firearms, revolvers, do not depreciate much if at all. Most of the time they rise. The gun itself is in 95 % condition. If I did not clarify, this is the 2" snubbie chambered in 45 ACP. My understanding is that the snubbie is more sought after than the longer 5" barrel. Thanks guy! Great community so far!

Well, since I have a WTB on the forum for a 625-10. I guess it really would be hard to tell you what to ask for it. I guess $200 would suit me.

JUST kidding. I paid $700 for mine a three/four years ago with the perforamnce center case.

I've kept an eye on prices, looking for another.

Cheapest I saw was $750 but it was drilled/tapped for a scope. NO I'm not joking. A scope??????

Top I've seen was $1195 unfired with case, papers etc.

One caveat, A California fella wanted to sell me one for $1450.

I haven't totaled up the average, but $900-$1100 slightly used is ball park.

There were somewhere around 850-865 made, not real rare.

The 625-11 in 45 colt is much rarer with 103 made.

Prices on those $1500-$2000.

Trying to be straight even though I want another one.

Dave

There is one of the 625-10 snubbies on gunbroker right now bidding is at 1050, and it does not have the "premium" case or holster. The 45 LC are desirable, however the Snubbies are as desirable if not more from everything I have seen.

I hesitate to say too much because I am looking to buy one.

With all the accessories you have in 95% condition it would obviously bring more than the lower numbers I have seen ($750-$950).

Question is how much? And yes I think the posters here know you are referring to the 2" gun in 45acp. There a lot of model 625 guys here and they are up on the various versions of 625s.

Unless the armorer at S & W was willing to pay you $1450. His opinion is merely that an opinion. Like mine and others.

Shop it around at $1450. Gunbroker seems like a good place to start.

I think it is a desirable gun but with a production run of 850-865 it's not rare. The black framed version had 250-300 made.

This is a great forum. But objectivity is not its long suit.

Take Care
Dave

Here's my 625-4 with the 2" barrel installed. I think the unmodified revolver cost me $250 about 10 years ago. The 2" barrel cost about $70 from Numrich. A local gunsmith charged me only $50 to install it! I give him a fair amount of business so he must like me. The 2" barrel is made for a short cylinder, so I know he had to set back the forcing cone area. He found a front sight to fit and had to weld it up. The center pin had to be shortened too. I already had a ball lock on the crane for front lock up and we kept it in place. Another forum member had done something similar and used a BB in the crane to properly engage the recess that's cut into the barrel. My setup works just fine but this revolver has seen a lot of hard use in its previous configuration as a match, field and carry gun. Right now I carry it a lot and shoot it a little, since I have two other 625s and a 627 that are regular shooters.

Dave,
Interesting piece you had built. Thanks for the pic, but I'm looking for a light weight frame with a 2" barrel.

To Bodey41,
Don't want you to think this board is full of jerks and I'm one of them. It's just that whenever someone is selling something they want to get as much for it as possible. Whenever someone wants to buy something they want to pay as little as possible without lying to someone to steal it at a crazy price.
I hope you get as much for your 625-10 as you can. I'll keep looking and likely will have to raise my "willing to pay amount". No problem. This is a great forum and you will enjoy the amount of info posted here. After nine years I've had a lot of fun and have learned a great deal.

Just took in one of these on consignment. Unfired with box, paperwork and second set of grips. Also there is a Kramer holster.
Please let me know if anyone is interested.
