3" SP101's in .357 are fairly common and still catalogued by Ruger. A pre-lock 629 3" is an entirely different story. If you can only afford one and don't have a "need" for a small revolver like the SP101 get the 629.

Your build and anicipated use may just have a bearing on this, as well as ammo prices.

I want a M-629, but it'll have a six-inch barrel. My SP-101 with a barrel a hair over three inches is a great small outdoors and defense gun.

A 3" 629 would be a lot of fun to shoot .44 Specials. I don't even like shooting .44 mags anymore out of any barrel length.
