Hello Folks, Just been glossing over a few of the forums I frequent and noticed there were several gun model specific forums with a lot of activity and I wondered if there would be any interest in starting a Smith and Wesson 640 Club? I thought it would be fun and useful to share our thoughts, experiences and + and -'s with such a great little revolver.
I love mine and am having a ball messing around with the Crimson Trace Laser Grip sights. However, with all my firearm's I'm cpmstamtly trying to think of different ways to challenge myself and the weapon. Do it enough and you will really get to know what you personally (not someone else) can or can't get out of the gun. I've have guns I couldn't shoot if my life depended on it, but a buddy could shoot bullseye's all day with the same gun.

No matter what I carry, my 640 no dash will be by its side!!!

Sounds good!
I just recently picked up a current 640 in .357 Mag.
It has become my "standard" carry item, albeit it usually with .38+P Gold Dot for the first three shots, then .357 (145gr Silvertips).

NO!!!
I'm Still Looking For Mine..

I'll have to Be happy With My 940 & 642 For Now.

You Should Maybe Start a Centennial Club But Then that would shut out BodyGaurd & Cheif Special Owners, Maybe a J Frame Club..
Enjoy That 640 Jim

Just tonight I test-fired a 640 at my local range. Started with .38 Special rounds and then tried out a few .357 Magnums. The flashes were so bright, the rest of the people on the range all came up to see what I was firing. It was hilarious, the look on their faces when they saw the snub-nosed revolver I was shooting.

I love my 640 .357. With five Speer GD SB .357's on board, it was my ideal compromise. All carry pieces compromise something: Concealability, power, weight, potential reliability, capacity, recoil, accuracy, etc. The 640 happened to be my sweet spot--your mileage may be somewhat different.

I love my 38 Special Model 640. It is a great carry piece that has been through the rough with me for the past 17 years.

Same here! I bought mine brand new in April of 1990; it's one of the "CEN" prefix models marked "Tested for +P+". I love that little gun--it's my all-time favorite revolver.

Geez, I had one of those back in '90. Made the VERY foolish decision to sell it to a non-shooter friend, for home protection.

His wife decided that she didn't think it was a bad idea, so he "disposed" of it by taking and turning it in to the local police station......without telling me...........Nice.....UGH!

Hello and thanks for the fantastic response to the new Smith and Wesson 640 Club. I thought about suggesting the name "S&W 640 Centennial Club", but couldn't bring myself to exclude the thousands of proud owners of all the Smith 640 model styles. And besides, how can you exclude any member of the evolving family of an icon in the revolver industry?

This isn't a commercial because I've never personally used one of these, but maybe some of you out there in 640 Land have....but I want to pocket carry my little 640 Centennial so I've ordered a pocket holster for it and hope it works out for me. It's a "Mika's" at http://www.frontiernet.net/~akim/ and should get it in 3-4 weeks. I've heard they're nicely made with high quality materials and fit the gun very well you ordered it for. Again...based on what I've read and heard they are comfortable, have no imprint while carrying and stay put when you pull your gun.
Thanks and good shooting.

I got lucky. My 640 (38) came from the factory with rounded edges as if it came from the custom shop. I still can't post pictures here, or I'd show the gun and my cut down Safariland finger groove, open back strap grips.
It's loaded with Buffalo Bore Standard Pressure 158's as the first 2 and BB +P 158's as the last 3. I have a nickel 49, a pre lock nickel 442 and my always 340 PD, but I absolutely love my 640.

The 640 and 649 are two of my favorite pocket/belly guns - when it's not feasible to carry something larger, one of these invariably goes along with me. While the 649 gives the option of a single-action shot, with the 640, there's nothing to remember except point and shoot. I think the 640 trigger, over time and double action use only, will develop, as has mine, a superior double action pull - very smooth.
