S&W 640 Club

For the 640 lovers. Top is a couple 640-1 bottom right is a 940 no dash and bottom left is a very interesting piece. It is model 640 with a 3"bbl, unfluted cylinder and marked "airweight" The funny thing about this revolver is it is ALL STAINLESS and still marked airweight. It is mentioned in Supica & Nahas second addition as "reported but not confirmed" on page 205 under model 640 in sub heading "airweight". It is unfired in the original box with the same product on the box that is mentioned in the book. After I received the pistol I called Mr. Supica or Mr. Nahas, I cannot remember who it was exactly, and told him what I had He seemed quite excited and asked me to confirm the product code and I even took a photo of the box with the code. I do not know if they made mention of it in the newest addition, actually, I do not know if there is a third addition yet. If you have one, I would be interested if there is mention of it.

I got mine as a companion for my 340 M&P. I found that I carried the 340 on the belt quite often and not in the pocket as much as I'd anticipated.

I long ago settled on the DPX 125 gr. as my .357 ammo of choice. It's a "mid range" powered .357 with great performance. Gives me a little more power than the .38+p stuff. It does kick a bit in the 340 though.

I decided thst a 640 for the belt carry primary weapon made sense for me. I still use the 340 for concealment purposes. I have the Crimson Trace 405 grips on the 340 for concealment.

I decided on the C.T. 305 grips on the 640 since it was going in a holster on the belt. They give me a full 3 fingered grip vs. only a 2 fingered grip for the 340.

Between the bigger grip and the extra weight of the 640 vs. the 340, I enjoy shooting it more and I shoot it better.

I've got the bases covered nicely with the 640 on the belt and the 340 for BUG. Love them both. I don't regret getting either on. Nice combo!

Got a super trigger job from Randy Lee on both guns. Not cheap but they are my two standby essential guns and I wanted them to perform as well as a J frame can be made to perform. They'll never shoot as well as a K frame. But then they hide so much better than a K or L frame that it's well worth pulling on a little heavier trigger.

there are some very nice J frames guys, keep em coming...

Another model 640 fan here. I have two . . . one with a 1 7/8" barrel and the other with a 3" heavy barrel.

When concealment is a high priority, the 1 7/8" is perfect in either an IWB or OWB holster. With the right kind of pocket, it also is great for pocket carry.

I must confess, however, to being partial to the 3" heavy. With the longer sight radius and Pachmyar Compac grips, it comes up and points instinctively for me every time.

In addition, it provides a full length ejector rod for quick and complete extraction. Some folks prefer the shrouded ejector rod, but the heavy barrel without a shroud works well for me. An OWB pancake style holster is my preference for the longer barrel and Pachs.

And for more formal occasions, Elk stags are always in fashion.

Here is my 640 no dash. It's a late 1994 model. Had a couple of 442's before this, and it is amazing how much less recoil there is. Put a 100 rounds downrange yesterday, anything more than 25 in the airweight was a punishment.

I found it amazing that the 640 with it's coiled mainspring was just a touch smoother and lighter than my model 13-4 of the same vintage with it's leaf mainspring. Consider me smitten.
