As I understand it, these are pretty uncommon pistols to find, with less that 150 made. S&W CS said that this one was produced in August of 1988, and they confirmed the SKU code of 103710 in their system. This pistol appears to me to be one of the lower production (<150) Interim pistols, based on the frame, because my understanding is the Pilot pistols have the 4506 frame with wrap-around grips.

I acquired this pistol from a wholesaler/importer which is where the story gets a bit weirder to me. The magazine appears to have an evidence label from a judicial system somewhere in Central/South America. So far, my Google searches haven't been able to narrow down the country it came from, or find the exact case, but I would like to piece that together.

All in all, a cool pistol, and one I am glad I found. I wonder about the stories this pistol could tell, if it could talk.

I was looking on GB last night and there was another transitional up for bid , but it was in bad shape . In the description it noted an import mark discretely posted on the bottom of the trigger guard . Never knew they exported these guns .

The production runs on these were so low, that they wouldn't meet the normal reasons for exports like a LE/MIL sale. Always the potential that an individual exported it.

I see a lot of import marks, the ones on the bottom of the trigger guard tend to be the least obtrusive in my opinion.
