S&W 657 date

Looking to buy S&W 657 Classic HUNTER ii but need a little help would like to find year gun was made. All i have is first four letters of serial # CDEAxxx. Also did this gun come with wood grips or rubber . THANKS

There is an extra letter in the serial number. Smith uses 3 letters and 4 numbers for the serial. The SCSW lists CDE as March 1999, if that helps any.

That is what i had in my S&W book also but person that owns gun now said the serial # was CDEA. I will see gun tonight and find out. Thanks for your help.

A 657 Classic Hunter II, product code 103948, would have left the factory with laminated rosewood finger groove grips from Altamonte

If the seller has the box, the date of manufacture will be printed on the end-label under the heading "Spec Ord"

Most of the 500 pieces were produced in 98 or 99. CDExxxx would have been 99

I had a pretty good idea what I thought it was, but seller could not take pic's, so did not know for sure. But with your guy's input I got what I was after. So thanks to all. See pic.
