Thats what I paid for mine last year. Where are you going to find one? They just don't come around often.
Just my opinion.

You've simply found a seller who knows what he has and is asking a fair price for it. As paragain intimated, the next one might not come your way for a long time and cost a lot more when it does.

The very last ones (IL, fiber optic front sight) seem to go for less than that, but for a nice unaltered early one like a -2 to 4 that is about the going rate.

Do you know what dash# it is? IMO I would pay that for a dash 4 or below.

assuming its a 3 inch 66 -4 or earlier that's about the limit I would pay for one without box, papers etc.

for a -4 or earlier with box, papers etc I think $1200 is a deal.

and like the others have pointed out, when are you going to see another one?

if you haven't noticed, excellent condition 2.5 inch 66's with box and papers (especially -1's) have risen over the last few years they are starting to command $900-1000 and sometimes more.

The three inch just doesn't turn up all that often. If that's what you've got to have the price is probably not unreasonable and that is the price I'd expect to see at local gun shows. I would probably settle for a 2.5 inch for $500 less though. Good luck.

I saw a 2.5" at a gun show 2 weeks ago for $475.
Made me wish I hadn't gone because I didn't have the funds for it.

Quick pic....
Looks like a 1986 66-2.
Colt is 80 series 1984....very clean.
Only two pick-ups this weekend.

Dad-burn Photobucket would make a preacher cuss...

You certainly got two excellent basic handguns there.

My son is mainly into autos. He picked up a three-inch M-60 in a trade and let it go for $750. No, not to his dad, alas.

The rub with carrying one is that it may be seized for evidence if you shoot someone. It can take a long time to get back and may be damaged.

It's more practical to carry a M-65. There are more of them around.
