Smith 66-1 2.5 inch....

Back in 01 my local gun dealer called and asked, if would be interested in a pair of 2.5" k-frame 357's his pastor was looking to sell. Having just bought a NIB 66 4" built in 76, I said sure. They turned out to be a 66 built in 78 and a 19-3 from 73 with pair of holsters. We struck up a deal and I enjoyed both the snubs, until I sold the 4" 66, still NIB, and rationalized, I only needed one snub. So had my dealer sell the 66 2.5".. In hind sight, I should have kept both 66's. Then. I would have 19 4" and snub for one boy and a pair of 66"s for the other. Oh well, I am sure they will work out who gets what. Their sister can referee. lol.
As I always say “Keep all your guns in family if possible.” Great guns. Thanks S&W forum.

I'd consider the diamond stocks a plus, I put a set of aftermarket Altamonts on mine that have the diamond, but those are the real deal! I carry my 2-1/2' M66-1 quite frequently.

M66-1 was the last series before it went smaller on the left side. I much prefer the large logo on the side plate myself.
I carry my 66-2 2/12 inch daily with two HKS speed loaders with .38+p rounds. Nice gun. Thanks S&W forum.

++Looks like there are a lot of short barrel 66 fans here. I bought mine new in 1978 and I still carry it in the winter. The 2 1/2" did not show up until 1974 but the diamond magnas are a nice touch.

I have my original magnas for mine but these Pac Compacs handle magnum loads better. The 3" 686+ TALO is a good gun but significantly heavier so it's kept in the kitchen.IMG_0881 (2).JPG

Why wouldn’t you shoot that great fun gun? My 66-2 is fun but my trigger finger has arthritis and hurts bad when I shoot any of my handguns. Enjoy those guns at the range while your health is good. Thanks S&W forum.
I'm debating whether to shoot these or buying shooter grade guns. I rarely hit the range anymore and frankly, I have so many guns it's hard to decide what to take, lol. I have about 25-30 guns that I bought and haven't shot yet.

Left the island to take a break from the crowds.
Swung by one of my regular spots and as soon as I
stepped in the owner stated..."I just was thinkin of you yesterday".
She handed me this.
1981 vintage 66 2.5 inch slick as a pin.
No clue when it was strapped with the diamond grips.

No way I'd have not grabbed it, great find Ex!
Went to get a haircut last Tuesday, closed on vacation and $900 bucks later I left my pawn shop next door with a 72-77 production date 6" 27-2 in 100% condition that looks to have never been fired.
Ya just never know...

After catching this thread the other day I felt the urge to get mine out to the range. What great shooting guns! I was having a better than average day and managed to squeeze 4 rounds into one hole at 10 yds. I brought the brother of my 66-2, a 19-3 for company. I went home all smiles. Thanks for the inspiration Fuzz, I hope you get yours to the range soon.
