S/W 686 no dash year date.

i purchased a older 686 no dash. i have the s/w standard catalog but can not find info on serial number date. the serial is ABC9642 if someone can help me with the date. after getting it i noticed a hard binding on one cylinder in double action. single action is fine, gun has been cleaned, no crud,so would it be the hand worn or possible the extractor which i have looked at magnified and see nothing wrong. the locking block seems to lower and lift in place correct. thank you for any help to the good people on this forum

My SCSW, 5th. ed. indicates ABC prefix was 1983 production. The binding on one chamber may just be that one ratchet segment is a thousandth or two higher. A worn hand, or ratchet segment, might cause a chamber to not carry up properly...

I believe an ABCxxx serial 686 no-dash is likely going to be a bit earlier than 1983, I would guess fall of 1982, perhaps late 1982. If you have it's original box with intact end label, we could REALLY date it. Otherwise, send an e-mail to S&W and they usually get back within two business days.
