I haven't been able to find the dimensions of the S&W 6906. I currently have a Sig P6/225 with 8 round mags, single stack. Does anyone here have both for comparison or the dimensions of the 6906? I ask because I am thinking of getting a 6906 but I worry about the width of the grip since it is a double stack mag. Thanks

I think that would be a "buy" then, thanks for the info.

Buy the 6909 quickly, before someone else figures out how great a gun it truly is! You will NOT regret it!

FWIW:

I don't have a Sig P6, but have held one and it feels great in the hand.. I do have a 6906 and it definitely feels "wider", but not uncomfortably so.

My suggestion would be if a single stack capacity suits your needs you would enjoy the fine pistol you already have, but if greater capacity is your interest it'd be hard to beat the 12+1 of the Smith vs the 8+1 of the Sig.

Additionally with the addition of the S&W grip+2 extender you can use the 15 round mags of the 5906 with factory appearance.

And surprisingly, I like the way the 6906 "feels" with the grip+2 mag in it better than the standard mag and I have small hands.

Just depends on what you need...

Even though I have the 6906 I find myself cc my 3913LS or CS9 more often than the fine 6906.

Just personal opinion,

Jesse

Don't have a 6906, but here's a pic of my 3913 with my P225. The 6906 and the 3913 are the same height and length, only the 6906 is a double stack compared to the 3913 single stack. Either the 3913 or 6906 is smaller than the P225, except for the width on the 6906's grip.

I really like the look of the grip +2 extender.
Where can I find one? What did it cost?
I just purchased a 6906 and am really enjoying it.

kal:

The "grip +2 mag adapters" can be ordered directly from S&W. (1-800-331-0852) The part number (I think) is: 24212, but you might want to double check that.

I think the price is around $8 apiece plus nominal shopping cost. I ordered two and they were on back order for several weeks before they came.

I actually like the feel of the 6906 with the +2 adapter & 5906 mag on it better than the fingertip extension equipped 12rd factory mag.

CDNN sells new 5906 mags (when they have them in stock) for $30, and used 5906 mags for $20. I bought three used mags because they were out of new ones when I called, but two of the three used 5906 had compressed mag springs which I am replacing with new S&W springs and by the time I pay $6 (or so) for each new spring, plus shipping I would have been just as well off buying new mags in the first place.

In the future I'm buying new when I can.

Hope this helps,

Jesse

Which is wider or narrower in the slide an frame rail area? the sig or smith?

The 225 is a single stack, but the grip cross section is amazingly thick, almost as thick is the 228 and 229, if you put them side by side. The 6906 is better for all sorts of reasons.

I have both and for what its worth, I would take the 6906 hands down. I am a big Sig fan, but the 6906 is one of the great compact 9mm IMHO. The grip might be just slightly wider, but the whole gun feels smaller.

AND:

15+1 trumps 8+1 no matter what name is engraved on the barrel...

Based on the triggers alone, I would go with the 6906. Regards 18DAI.

I've had a P225 and shot it a good bit. I currently have a 6906 with the +2 mags.

The DA trigger pull on the P225/P6 seems incredibly heavy to me. Obviously that can be changed. You can get a P6 military trade-in for about what you would pay for a 6906 in nice condition.

IMO, the 6906 is or feels smaller and lighter than the P225/P6 and the capacity is a seller for me. Why bring along 9 when you can have 16? I would say, as much as I love SIGs, the 6906 handles just as well if not better and makes as good or better a carry piece.

If you must have a single stack you could try a 3913/3914 but I have to admit the grip on the P6/P225 feels much better to me then that of the 3913 with standard grip panels.

IMO, get the 6906. I think SIG is not really going to be supporting the P225/P6 anymore, parts will be harder to find. On the whole I think you will find more parts and better service for the 6906 then for the P225/P6. It breaks my heart to say so, but I think it's true.

TM:

Another consideration, P6's made before a certain date (June 1989 comes to mind, but could be wrong) do not fare well with hollow-points. After the changeover date the angle between the ramp/barrel configuration was changed,(improved) and the P6's made after that date apparently fed jhp's just fine.

A person considering the purchase of a surplus P6 would do well to go on the Sig forum and ask around there for the correct changeover date and improve their chances of getting a P6 that functions well with jhp's.

Just a thought.

Best Wishes,

Jesse

Mine is an 11/78 manufacture, haven't tried it with JHP's yet. The gun turned 30 years old this month.
