Hello Gentlemen,

I have found a 745 in a local shop in the used gun cabinet, over all it is in fairly good condition except for the fact that someone replaced the original hammer with a stainless steel hammer out of a 645.

Here is the question....Is a 745 hammer the same part as a model 52 or is it entirely different?

I have been thinking about buying the pistol as these don't show up often around here, but I would have to replace the 645 hammer as I don't like the way it looks in the 745.

E-Gunparts shows two different part numbers for the M52 and M745 hammer.

I have two M745's and a friend has another. The hammers on all three have extremely sharp edges. So sharp that they cut your thumb after awhile. On all three I broke the edges with a stone and the cold blued the raw steel. Possibly this is why the hammer was changed on your gun.

Smith and Wesson has two part numbers for that piece:

103740000 which is marked obsolete on my parts list.

103940000 which was current as of my parts list (which is a couple of years old). This is also listed for the M645 hammer.
