Can anyone tell me the difference between the 845 and 945 magazines? I finally found and purchased an 845 and want to buy additional magazines. I have some 945 mags but they do not interchange. Thanks.

Location of the magazine release notch.

645, 745, 845, 4566 and 4506 magazines are basically all the same and are interchangeable.

The 945 magazines are specific and some early ones were actually made from the already existing ones. These will have two mag release notches.

Since no one has asked which one of the three different “845’s” did you find and get? They are all excellent regardless.

I see your WTB add is updated/active/. Is a 945-2 also in your future? Why specifically a -2? Just curious.

Jim

Interesting. A 945-2 does not exist so I would love to hear more on that.

The 945 magazine is absolutely exactly the same as the gujillion of 4506 magazines made for decades, except for a higher notch just as Jim said. There is no other difference.

And yes, the 845 will happily use any/every full size S&W 2nd or 3rd Gen 8-round .45 mag made except the 945 magazine and if you do have one of the early dual-notch magazines, it will use that one also.

Jim, I picked up a limited "MPC" serial number. I believe my WTB add dealt with the metal Performance Center case while the 945-2 you reference is really a 952-2 in my Wischo thread. I am not aware of a 945-2.

Sevens, I have a dual notch magazine and it would not work in the 845. I did not want to force it. I will try it again and let you know. Thanks.

It needs to be a dual-notch magazine and it is certainly not meant for the 845 or 4506, and if you are doing speed or stress fast reloads, it is not a good magazine to use.

With that said, if you push the magazine release button in while you seat the magazine to move beyond the first notch, it does lock in properly, feed/fire/eject brass, and pushing the release will eject the magazine as intended.

Sevens, thanks. It works like you said. I called S & W to try and get a part number for the magazine and that was a no go. Does anyone have the part number? Also, anyone know where I can buy a mag or two? Thanks.

I try my hardest not to get drawn in to a rant about what S&W is today and get nostalgic for what S&W once was some years ago but you might have a difficult time finding anyone on the property who has even half a clue that the 845 Limited was a pistol that S&W built and sold. And I promise that nobody who ever speaks to customers on the telephone has any clue about this pistol.

Though I never shop there myself these days… Ebay is a hugely popular spot for 10-round and under magazines. The prices are usually tragic.

Hey wait a second, you already have the hard to find 945 magazines.

You are looking for 845 magazines! Gunbroker almost surely has them. Remember that EXACTLY what you need for an 845 is to find and buy 8-round 4506 magazines.

Prices are not as low as I wish they were but the good news is that S&W made 14 gujillion of these magazines. There is no chance that you will fail in finding them.
