According to my Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson 3rd Edition (if I am reading it correctly) on Page 334 it shows that Model 916 was introduced in 1972. BTW, I see that gun (same serial number) up for sale and it shows it as a 12ga - if you are bidding - good luck.
