My favorite antique S&W's are the Americans
I have posted the 3 I have but I would love to see yours.
I know some members have thinned their collections so even photos of those gone by are just dandy.

Here' my #29464 2nd model .44 American
Matching numbers, original nickel finish.

Front sight blade has been replaced by a 5 cents shield nickel coin.

The date is visible. It's 186X, unfortunately the last digit is unreadable.

The Shield Nickel was produced from 1866 through 1883. The one used for the front sight would be dated 1867-1869, as the 1866 had rays between the stars on the reverse, and the first photo shows that there are no rays between the stars.

My US American 1st model shipped March 1871 and a cartridge box from the following month.
