There is a "wheel" that describes the various models and variants. I don't have a copy handy but you should be able to do a web search for something like "smith & Wesson pistol models wheel".

The "list" you are requesting has also been posted on here a few times and should be available through a search of the site. I'm currently checking in by an iPhone or would try to find it for you, but it should be easy to find.

59xx - double stack full size

x9xx - 9mm
40xx - 40s&w
45xx - 45acp single stack
10xx - 10mm single stack

xx0x - standard size DA/SA standard slide mounted safety
xx1x - compact, DA/SA standard slide mounted safety
xx2x - standard size w/frame decocker
xx3x - compact w/ frame decocker
xx4x - standard size DAO
xx5x - compact DAO
xx6x - none standard size. DA/SA frame mounted safety
xx7x - none standard size w/ frame decocker
xx8x - none standard size, DAO

xxx3 - Aluminum frame/stainless slide
xxx4 - Aluminum frame/carbon slide
xxx5 - Carbon frame & slide
xxx6 - stainless frame & slide

For instance. A 5906 is a 9mm standard size double stack with a DA/SA action, frame miunted safety and made of stainless slide and frame.

A 5946 is the same but DAO.

A 4586 is a 45acp none standard size DAO made of stainless slide and frame.

A 4563 is a 45acp none standard size, with DA/SA action, slide mounted safety and has a Aluminum frame and stainless slide.

There are some variations though, but rarely.

Then there are the 3rd gen economy versions. These have some plastic parts such as sights and other minor parts.

910 - standard size, double stack 9mm w/10 round mag. Made for the 1994 awb

915 - full size, double stack, 9mm. 15 round mag. Same as the 910 but made prior to the 1994 awb.

908 - compact single stack 9mm

410 - same as 910 but in 40s&w
411 - same as 915 but in 40s&w and 11 round mag

457 - compact 45acp

Actually it should have been 6903 , reason the 69xx was its own series and that was the standard size. Just shows that drinking at lunch then returning to finish numbering a new model just not a good idea
