S&W Autoloaders aren't collectable?

Hello mbliss, and your point is well taken. They are butt unattractive and
clunky. But, it is a limited production run and that factory hand stamping of the model number gets some guys really going. For all we know the top bidders could be dealers and all ready have the gun sold to a customer that has a buy order in. The customer pays for the gun and the dealer gets a percentage for handling the deal. Nice position to be in.
Somebody is lurking in the bushes and will bid in the last 15mins.

just an update. 147A has leveled out at $4085. But the active time will start later. The real surprize is a Nic. 39-2 in box at $1227. And I passed on the same gun four months ago at $845. Two guys really want those guns.

Well the 147A ended st $4085. I not sure I would consider that a new high normal as many guns in the same auction went for some crazy money.
A pre model 10 with no box circa 1948/49 sold for $1105. I bid $575 as that should have been in the ball park for later in auction. Not even close. And a 19-2 2.5” at $1725! Just crazy.
On the other hand I bought an original pre B Cz75 for $420 shipped. And 2 Beretta 84 and 85 both for under $400.
It depends a lot on the auctioneer.
We just have to decide what we are willing to pay and stick to it and be patient. I’ve found very good deals outside of GB in past few months.

I have a fairly comprehensive collection of S&W automatics. From Gen 1 through current models. They are affordable, fun, and you will never see all steel pistols like this again except for 1911's and some offerings from Sig-Sauer which are usually very pricey. A firearm collection is measured by the enjoyment of the collector. Its only collectible if someone slaps down a huge amount to buy it with no intention of enjoying it for fear of depreciation. I love my S&W semi-auto collection and look forward to filling out the roster when I come across obscure models at reasonable prices. You wanna slap down 1000-bucks for a model 41 and never shoot it then you shouldn't be doing this.
