This .38 S&W New Departure, Safety Hammerless, 5th Model was shipped April 1917… 105 years ago this month. They were nicknamed the "Lemon Squeezer" and were produced from 1887 to 1940.

It's in very good condition with the original box and has great color case hardening.

If your S&W is over 100 years old, feel free to post your "Centenarian".

Forgot to add my favorite holster… probably one of the first types of "in the pants holster". The slotted leather loops attach to buttons on the inside of men's trousers (same buttons for suspenders aka "braces").

How about a group family picture

Hand Ejector M&P, 4th Change, 3572xx, S&W shipped this on May 31, 1921 and my Grandfather's best memory (at the age of 90) was that he bought it in 1923. This was the only handgun that he had ever owned.

I don't know if he bought it new or used. I can't imagine that he upgraded to the MOP grips. It would seem possible that he asked the Hardware store owner to install them as part of the purchase.

He gave me his only handgun as a High School graduation present. That was more than 30 years ago. Thanks, Grandpa!

By gum, I have a few of them old timers -

This Model 1905 4th change didn't quite make the cut - shipped in 1923.

John, I'll see your "8's and Aces" raise you one… (real Wild Turkey by the way).

This M&P "Fitz" shipped to Belknap Hardware Company, Louisville, Ky, on January 2, 1908.

This thread got me to wondering just how many Smith & Wessons I have that are over 100 years old. I did a count of my records and what a surprise..........32! Too many to photograph, but maybe later I'll take a few shots of the ones in the 1800s.

This Model No. 2 Army left the factory on April 27, 1868 and was delivered to C. & J.F.B. Company, Yokohama, Japan. The shipment was for 100 units with 5" barrel length, blue finish and smooth rosewood grip stocks. The shipment also contained 15,000 Number 2 cartridges.

The Charles & James Favre-Brandt Company was one of S&W's main importers to Japan.

The Japanese kanji on the side shows that this handgun was registered in Kochi Prefecture in 1894 as weapon No. 9201.

This No. 2 was brought back from Japan by a U.S. Army officer during WWII.

My grandad's gun, pictured in my post above, was also shipped to Belknap Hardware, a few years before yours in 1904. I believe my grandad purchased it new there.

Nice photo as always, Linda!
