S&W "Classic" Model 19 357Mag

Thank you for the Link with a nice write up.

I like the "Classic" 19 357Mag/38Spl even more,
now that I see it has the Frame Ball Detent Lock up.

The Sleeve/Shrouded barrel is a plus also.
Adjustable Sight good too.

The Bluing is great too. If I would happen to get
one I would replace the Wood Grips with S&W Black
Rubber finger grooved since I shoot a lot.

The two piece barrel is really tough to hate when you start shooting it. It does seem to work better for accuracy, and no canted front sight. I base that on my 620's vs every other S&W revolver taking space in my gun safes including the 1950's and '60's guns.

If they would make it in nickel I think I would jump on one. The 2 piece barrel doesn't bother me a bit and I've learned to live with the ugly lock stuff, but I don't like the new blue finish. But a traditional S&W nickel finish would have me drooling!

Thanks for posting the link. I see all the new 19's have the newer ball detent lockup. I'm curious, does anyone know if they ever changed the old style ball detent on the 4.25" 66-8's?

Invictus, there are a number of different types of people on this Forum: those that have vast experience and are nice enough to share it; those that are less experienced and more opinionated; and those who come to read and learn.

I like to think that everyone is entitled to an opinion and what they say belongs to them. I don't get excited when someone disagrees with me or offers up some cockamamie theory or belief that seems to fly in the face of reason.

I have tremendous respect for this Forum; the admins as well as the members. I have learned so much (and feel I have contributed so little). I try to good-naturedly support folks who post with uncertainty and never say a discouraging word because I'm not here to aggravate anyone or be aggravated by anyone.

In my line of work there is a basic tenet; the fastest way to extinguish a behavior is to ignore it. Why don't you find the good here and enjoy this terrific place and the knowledge it imparts? You'll come away a happier and smarter shooter.

I just had a 19 classic delivered to my FFL yesterday which I bought off of GB. I am excited to pick it up which won't be until Tuesday. I am looking forward to comparing it to my 2 19-5's.

The big cheese made it very clear that the MIM, lock complaining was getting out of hand.

And neither MIM parts, nor the locks, are going away. It is what it is. I agree, I wish people would just deal with it and move on. I find the new Classic 19 quite tempting. My big problem now is deciding between that or a 27 Classic.

Those pictures show severe metal scrapping on the frame around the barrel from what looks like the cylinder closing.

any ideas on what that is?

That is odd, Wood714. If you notice the 4" gun with the red ramp doesn't appear to have that gap. It must have something to do with securing that Trijicon front sight.

Not clear on what you are referring to?
The fact that the base and ramp aren't one continuous line?
If that is the question I have no answer.

Or the fact that the sight is set back from the muzzle?
If this is what you're asking then it is because the barrel is ported in front of the sight.

I was talking about the sight being set back from the muzzle. Just think it doesn't look right.
