S&W Classics Series

I notice several posters are interested in guns with a "6" as the first numeral. I think the "Classics" have all been carbon steel in blue and nickel so far.

S&W could certainly do Classics in stainless next.

Smith made thousands of 629 Classics in stainless steel, 5", 6.5" and 8-3/8" . Some were even Classic DX's which had extra grips and sights and some had targets included which showed the accuracy of that individual gun.

I am still enjoying buying the old M19's and M28's in the $300 - $400 price range, and have stacked up quite a few. If our local sellers get "informed" and start putting them out for $1000, I will stop buying and likely start selling.

The sellers in Texas are informed. A 28-2 for 3-400?

I live in Georgia. Two 28-2's in the past 16 months for $365 each. One with a 4 inch barrel and one with a 6. Both really nice. Bought a like new M19 last week for $325. . .4 inch barrel and happened to be the rare 19-P. They are getting a bit thin around here though. The big gun shows in Atlanta are not turning up that many any more. At least not in the past 3 months.

We all have favorite models, but I'd be willing to bet that a 3" no-lock K frame would sell...

Wed I am picking up from layaway a 10-7, 3 inch I lucked out on for $378. I have a thread I started that I will post up pics if I get a chance next weekend, but if not definately the next week as I am off till after New Years. In the meantime need to check my accessories inventory because am positive I have another Tyler T K square butt grip. Going to make this my go to carry piece.

DocB, no doubt I need your luck with the N frames as I consider the 4 inch 28-2 my last remaining "can't live without it" Smith. (at least for the moment anyway.) Several years ago I almost found it on GB. The gun was up from a local well known gun dealer that offers just about everything, except they are waaaay overpriced on most items. This offering wasn't priced too bad considering and I ended up the winning bidder under the stipulation that the gun was original finish. But afterwards the dealer emailed and apologized for the mistake as the gun was a refinish. Of course I had the option to opt out of the sale and I did. Don't regret that at all as I will take a holster worn gun anyday over a pristine refinish, just the way I am. But I have seen nothing of interest since and this remains the Smith still "on the lamb" from my collection. That's ok, it's all about the search And can't complain with how lucky I have been with other models. : )

Update

I finally made it to the range Saturday for an operations test. Shoots outstanding. Here are a few pics as promised. Notice the previous owner got the itch to look inside. Fortunately that must have been it as nothing unusual in the operation of the gun. Looks worse in the pic where he must hav attempted the pry method but its reslly very smooth and just a carry piece so although disappointed its hardly anything to worry about.

Anyway I can't always get to things right away but I do get to it eventually. Enjoy the pics. It might take a few posts to get all 4 up.

Maybe more offerings in the N Frame 41 magnum. They are growing in popularity and cost too. I vote for a classic m57 with a 5" barrel in nickel. The 44 magnum had its hay day, if Dirty Harry used a 41 magnum and we had the Internet things would be different with the 41 magnum. The time is now to equal the score.

CLASSICS

I could very well be mistaken here, but-- I believe the first 'classics' came out in blue and stainless-- they were numbered and came in this case-- lower cut out was for a box of interchangeable front sights --- the top inside held the numbered certificate -- I have this unused one I picked up somewhere but I need to put it up for sale as I have never used it either. :) JMHO :)

The REAL CLASSIC SERIES Revolvers are on GB, and other similar sites every day! I realize that I may be "bucking the tide" in this thread, but what S&W is promoting as "Classic" - AIN'T CLASSIC!!

If you want a no excuses REAL CLASSIC, get a vintage one in excellent condition - still plenty out there. Just my opinion of course and not trying to offend anyone who has one.

I paid the same for the classic and "Classic."

One was purchased for what it's worth and the other a bit less. No, model 22's in 45acp in excellent condition aren't a plenty and aren't at a realistic price range for me. Shooting that 22-4 is guilt free, the 357...not so much.

Some of you fellas need to get off the high horse. Putting a lot of mileage on a tough to repair/replace collectable isn't sound.
