I have a question, what would be of greater importance to a collector consecutive serial numbers or registered numbers like the registered magnums have? Just a thought for us to consider. Thanks for any and all input in advance.

Everyone for himself. I once had consecutive serial NR mags that went to St. Joe PD. I sold them to DC a while back. They weren't pristine, just run of the mill prewar mags, having seen duty for a while.

But I kept my set of consecutive RMs that didn't have consecutive serials. Does that answer the question about one collector?

A while back, like maybe 10 years, Jim Supica had a beautiful set of Triple Locks with consecutive serials. Any of you who keep the Old Town Station Dispatch can dig them out and see. He tried in vain to sell them as a pair, arguing they should stay together. No one came up with the money, and they were up for sale for a long time. I'm almost certain he ended up breaking them up.

As much lip service as we give the idea of them being collectible, the reality is few of us will spend a premium to do it.

Thanks Mr. Burg for your reply. The reason I asked is I have a RM that I am considering to sell and thought i would get input on this angle, reg # 1122, serial # 48412, 6 1/2 " letters to Wolf and Klar.

Don't know a whole lot about it, mainly because I don't own either consecutives or registered. But I agree with Mr. Burg's comment on the consecutive numbers. Personally, I'd rather have the RMs. But, to each their own.

Unfortunately I've never had to make this choice. But when I thought about your question I said to myself "They all have serial numbers, how many have registration numbers?" I think it kinda makes the choice obvious. Just my opinion and it's worth every penny you paid for it.

Apples and Oranges.

Only Reg Mags have Reg numbers.
Any model might be found with consec serial numbers- MAYBE.
MAYBE NOT- since S&W often numbered several models in the same series. For instance, it MIGHT be possible to put 5 consec serial numbers together, and have 5 diff models-

44-3rd
