the s&w medallion? i know that can be faked ,guess you just got to have faith in your fellow man. if they look good, feel good and fit well...who cares?

Here are Project 616 (custom 327 Fed Mag K-frame) and his big brother the Model 686 (no dash) wearing matching combats. I've had the former pair since about the time I got the "donor gun" in the late '80s or so. The 686 came naked (the seller got it with Goodyears and knew I wouldn't want them) but then a second pair of combats finally showed up about a month and a half ago. Yep, they handle as well as they look!

Don't know if it was someone from here that got it but a set of SB Combats slid by on e-bay for $49. I THINK it was listed in a strange section like "cleaning supplies" which is why nobody bid on it. I had it on my watch list but missed the auction end.

Good luck on your model 58. It was worth whatever you paid to get it.
I carried one for 10 years as my primary duty gun. I still have the gun and a couple other 57's.
Currently I like the feel of Pachmayr "Gripper" style grips for shooting magnums. I carried Pachmayr Presentation style grips back in the day or a pair of the larger S&W target stocks that I whittled down.
The 58 was a great duty gun for a "Dog Guy" and it never failed me during "firearms altercations".....
I don't believe we ever had a "Dog Guy" in the old days that lasted even one dog w/o a "firearms event" ......
We (just 4 of us) carried a mix of model 58's, model 29's, model 629's, model 66's and even a model 25-5 if I remember correctly during our stay in the unit.
It was always better to have a complete "second set" of duty gear in the trunk (issued cars) because they took it all after every shooting and would just leave you hanging w/o one if you didn't have YOUR "spare".... It would take about a week for processing before you got your "gear" back....My "second set" was a 4" 629 or a 6 1/2" 29...depending on the time period...fortunately I never needed a 3rd set of gear...
Until auto's came along in the mid-80's, I don't recall seeing much other than "K" or "N" frames out there....a few Pythons & a couple of Rugers.....back then, we supplied our own guns & gear, only the uniforms came with the job.....I probably had close to 10 years on before they even supplied ammo....but I did get my empty brass back (R-P 210 soft point) when I'd pick up my 58.....
I shot local & some interstate competition with the 58 & 629 in duty gear, what would be the point of carrying it in something else....?
I reloaded ammo like crazy for those events...and we held a "COPS Match" (like IPSC, but based on police shootings) every other month for about 14-15 years at the Dept range....

No need to apologize. Your comments add to the thread. However, I would love to see some pix of those guns in that duty gear, though. In addition, I was especially interested in that "second set" of duty gear. In a way that would sort of parallel a range bag and a bug out bag combined. I'd be very interested in a thread about LEOs and how they (either officially or unofficially) deal or have dealt with that very problem. Being stuck out in "Indian Country" without your duty weapon is a very Bad Thing!
