S&W Combat Masterpiece .22

I have a Combat Masterpiece .22 caliber. It is a 5 screw, no model number , serial number in all the right places, four line information. The serial number is K 2282XX. Could someone tell me the approximate manufacture/shipping date? Thanks in advance.

Tom, as best I can determine from the Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson 3rd edition your revolver appears to have shipped around 1954. Hope this helps some.

Regarding monetary value it would depend mainly on condition for its age, if original stocks and any box or accessories. Hard to judge without good photos. If in high condition for its age I would probably say $750-800 or so.

I show one in the K220900 range that shipped in March, 1954. But I also show several in the K231000 to K232000 range that didn't leave Springfield until late spring and early summer, 1955.

So, there's your ballpark.

There is a list of manufacturing dates for post-WWII K-frames. Your serial number falls into the middle of 1954 manufacture date, 210,096 to 231,235.

Another classic example of why you can't trust shipping dates unless you have a letter. I have K198102 which letters to 9/7/54.
