Tried to buy one yesterday...no wholesaler had one. So my gun shop called Smith direct. The CS45 has been discontinued by S&W. Not sure about the CS9. S&W has 40 CS45 pistols left at the factory. Most likely they will be sold to a place like CDNN for closeout prices. Keeping my fingers crossed I can get one.

You will find one. You should be able to find one like new for less than $400. It would be crazy to pay the price S&W wants for a new one. Purchase extra mags if at all possible, they cost like $55 new.

FWIW,
Just yesterday (10/26/2007) I took the plant tour at Smith and Wesson and saw many different guns being machined that they do not offer anymore, both Revolver and Pistol.
There were many, many CNC milling machines working on the M&P slides to keep up with the demand.
But I also saw machining being done on the 5946, 3913 Lady Smith and the CS45 to name a few.
What a great time I had going through the different manufacturing production "Cells" given my background is in Aerospace machining.

Cool!

I'm taking the tour next month--really looking forward to it.

I don't know if S&W doesn't allow non-leo's to purchase on their LE side of the site, but last time I looked it was still listed there as a back up gun. Might be why it was still seen being produced? Anyway, craigcpa's gun would be a bargain compared to the S&W price. The 2 extra magazines are $100 if purchased from S&W, I have never seen them at places like CDNN for cheap.

Actually, I have seen quite a few closeouts at CDNN for reasonable prices. The 4576 and 4566TSW come to mind right away. I don't have the option of ordering from an individual. My dealer won't do that.

And I don't buy used guns.

S&W has discontinued all metal-framed pistols, except for LE orders. I don't know why they can't make them for the general market if they're staying tooled-up to make them for LE.

I asked Customer Service that very question and they said that there is a much higher profit margin in the use of polymer frame semi-autos when compaired to alloy frame semi-autos.They have to stay tooled for LE orders for all the departments that are using the alloy framed semi-autos as issued duty side arms and for those off duty carry applications. As it was said in that old rap song,It's all about the Benjamins".....God Bless.....Mike
