Just wanted to send my BRAVO ZULU to S&W Customer Service Representatives, Roz Sousa, Dave Valenze and technician, Vito (and his Team at the PC).

I had sent in my 1991-vintage 5906 slide to them in the hopes of getting the decocker-only modification done to the slide. I had found some stainless spring-loaded decocking levers from Numrich Arms and sent in one with the slide.

After several weeks, I checked in to ascertain the status of the work order. Through no fault of their own, they didn't have any updated status, as the slide wasn't sent in properly.

After 1/2 day, I received a call from the lovely and gracious Roz Sousa. Roz was good enough to track down the slide and go directly to 'Vito' to have him do the machining of the slide for me.

Today I received the Adjustable-Sighted slide assembly and put it back onto the lower half of my Sokol-tuned 5906. I am VERY pleased and happy that Roz and Dave took care of me.

I have since sent in another 5906 slide that Dave and Roz were nice enough to 'grease the skids' for me to send it in properly (with FedEx label).

Thanks so much for the GREAT Customer Service and work on the slide (Vito).

All,

The 3900/5900/4000 spring-loaded levers can still be had. I found them by accident perusing the "Miscellaneous" section on Numrich's Smith and Wesson section.

The reason WHY S&W wouldn't offer the service previously was the fact that they don't have any more of the spring-loaded levers.

I like the option of the decock-only. It's very easy to shoot and safe to carry. If one wants the original TDA operation with safety, they can simply change them out. Easy.

The outward appearance is the exact same as a 3rd Gen on fire. There is no difference in the external appearance.

It took about 3-4 weeks to complete. The holiday slow-down will elongate the response time somewhat.

Happy Thanksgiving!

My 4566 is decocker only and I really that feature. I wish my 6906 was the same.

OP, what did it cost for the work, and what did the parts cost?

Gtoppcop, got a question for you, I've seen some of the third gens you've posted before, I wanted to know is the CHP chrome plated trigger assembly good to put in all third gens including late model TSW's, I've read on the forum you don't mix mim parts with forged steel parts ( i could be getting part of this wrong ). I've got a 5943TSW that I've been thinking about putting that part in. BTW I love the third gens you've posted over the years, i often post the links in other treads to show the great mods that can be done to these fine pistols.

I've used the CHP (forged) parts with the MIM parts without any issues. The CHP parts are normally forged and hard chrome plated. I also hear that they don't use the trigger play spring apparatus, as it breaks off.

It's funny that the CHP still has the 4006 (although they now have an integral-railed TSW variant). Many other agencies that went to GLOCK or SIG have changed out the guns years ago. I've seen a couple prior CHP 4006s come into our LGS. They look none worse for the wear, other than holster buffing.

As far as the cost of the lever from Numrich, it's $35. The cost of the job that "Vito" does is approx. $55. I'm sending my "last" slide to them next week. My 1992-vintage 6906 will be the final modification from them.

Karl Sokol (Chestnut Mountain Sports in Vermont) has my 1987 659 there now for "modernizing". He's an artist for the custom 3rd Gen! I will have him do the slide modification via having my 915's slide as the exemplar. That way, all of my 2nd/3rd Gens will have the same manual-of-arms.

I don't mean to hijack gtoppcopp's answer, but I can tell you that ALL S&W metal frame, center fire pistols, 1st, 2nd, or 3rd generation, early wide (.370") or late narrow (.312") TDA triggers will interchange IN TDA PISTOLS ONLY! (TDA=Traditional Double Action or sometimes known as DA/SA=Double Action/Single Action which is double action first shot/single action on subsequent shots).
You 5943TSW is DAO (Double Action Only) and uses a trigger that is unique to TSW DAO pistols. If you swap out the trigger, hammer, sear release lever, and firing pin block for the corresponding TDA parts, you will have converted your DAO 5943TSW into a TDA 5903TSW and then you can substitute any TDA trigger that you want (including the Chrome plated 4006CHP trigger or any other flash chromed, forged, or MIM TDA trigger).
Keep in mind that the standard (non-TSW) DAO pistols used a different trigger than the TSW-DAO models and cannot be interchanged.
With regards to intermingling MIM and non-MIM parts, the only caveat I'm aware of is: Do not pair standard forged DAO hammers with MIM sears.

Any questions?

John

Thank you both so much! Your advice was much needed and appreciated. Gtoppcop, looking forward to more semi-auto pic!
