S&W Customer Service (time to vent)

I have several j-frames and none have the problem you describe. I also have a BG38 and the cylinder latches just as easily (if not a little better) than the others. In fact, when I first bought the gun I noticed how smoothly and securely it latched. I don't think this is caused by the gun being plastic nor do I think it is a problem that customer service should ignore. I would keep calling until you get someone who will help you.

My personal rule with new guns is to fire two hundred rounds "break in" for function issues and then shoot for accuracy. Seems to work for me, especially with semi-autos. Although firing two hundred rounds through a revolver that won't close and latch properly could take a minute or two :) As above, keep climbing the ladder and you'll get to the top for satisfaction.

Am acqainted with a now-retired S&W employee of 35 years, the last ten working in the Performance Center. He used to attend large sales in the Spring at a LGS where I once worked, checking into any Smith customers would bring in, performing check ups and minor repairs.

I asked him about the BG38.(the store has sold hundreds of'em) His reply was that 'the inside is like a Chinese puzzle', it shares no commonality with established S&W lockwork, and he wouldn't have one for a paperweight.

Told me all I needed to know.
