I used the S&W website to obtain a return shipping label. After a few days I received a response telling me due to increased traffic it would take about 5 business days to receive a response. 15 days later, I submitted another request using a tracking number provided in their original email. I got another email that repeated the same language from the first response. Is anyone else having trouble getting a gun in for repair?

I've never had to send anything in for repair but I would call them if it was me.

Ive had much better luck accomplishing anything with any company, S&W included, by calling rather than email communication. Granted, sometimes the wait times can be long....I called S&W to order some parts Mon and it took 5-10min to get through, longer than it took for the very efficient rep to take my order, but I'd rather deal directly with a human than rely on email. Massachusetts is a bit more uptight with shipping and had to go through local shop to ship. But S&W was quick and covered frame failure on my 22A.

I haven't had to return anything this year. But prior to that, I found the email system to be more effective than phone calls. On one problem I had I emailed them, and their response was to submit the claim on the warranty service on their website. I always had the email label within 2 days, but like I said that was before this year.

When I've emailed them in the past, about a problem I was having & needing warranty repair, I always received an email back requesting me to call the 800#. Once I spoke to them, & they said they'd email me a shipping label, it only took two to three days before it came. I'd definitely call them to make sure you get the ball rolling.

Ive been waiting over a month for in stock parts. I emailed them and they said their shipping was 2 weeks behind. my order was still in process. I could have had them in 3-4 days through Numrich gunparts. read on another forum that gun repairs were on a 9-12 month turn around. Ouch

I called them on Wednesday about a camping mug I ordered on 3 Sept. I was told they are having "software" issues that prevent them from shipping the mug. It is in stock.

Unless it's a recall, I'd use my local gunsmith.

Just as quick and more likely to get it right the first time.

If I want a refinishing job, then S&W is an option Understanding the one year turn around

The repair would be replacing a broken hammer stud on a 642. The gun went in 2 years ago to replace the barrel which had become canted to the point of making closing the cylinder difficult. I have 4,331 rounds logged, the frame is scratched up with dings in the aluminum side plates, the clear coat is flaking horribly, the back of the grip is worn down to bare metal with no finish, but it still worked with all original springs and was as smooth as could be. I felt a new 642 at a shop yesterday and it was like a different gun.

So I called in and was able to talk with a person. He generated an "order number" and gave that to me but was unable to give me a shipping label, saying it would be emailed in two days. A week later and still no shipping label.

I placed an order for some moon clips and a couple shirts on Oct 5. Still nothing. My credit card has not been charged and they dont email notify if something is back ordered. After several 30 minute waiting periods on hold (I went over on my cell phone minutes in october! :o ), the rude old lady on the phone said "our system doesnt allow for notifying you if something is out of stock, youll just have to wait for them sir." I should've cancelled right there....

waited several months for local shop to get me some additional magazines for my 1006 - I had gift certificate i wanted to use. Gave up eventually and S&W had them to my door very quickly after ordering on-line.
