Just won a S&W Chiefs Special 45 on GB and was reading up on how hard it is to find part's such as recoil springs for that model.
Looking on Ebay, Numich, Brownells and Wolff springs I began to give up on finding one.

Found S&W's 800 number from a old post here and what the heck and gave it a try.

A nice young lady asked what I wanted, took the model and serial number, got back to me with a N/C recoil spring on the way.

Can't beat that for customer service.

The worlds not coming to an end cause of this. More happy endings at CS than nightmares. The nightmares get most postings. Life's a crapshoot , then you die! Probably shouldn't buy a gun made on Monday. Great to hear about your positive experience. We can still have hope , but it is definitely NOT a strategy !!

Thank you for Posting your excellent experience
with S&W's Customer Service.

It is refreshing to see this. All the Negative Reviews
just wear me out. People need to inspect what their
buying or did something they shouldn't have and
then complain.

I once had to use S&W CS for my daughter's NIB Model
422 6"bbl 22lr. (sat in some guys safe since the '90's)
It had a safety issue. I wrote S&W CS an old fashion business
letter explaining the problem. CS acted immediately and fixed
the problem.

S&W is the best. I even offered to pay them and they said
No! This is why I buy with S&W.

THE BULK OF COMPLAINTS THAT I READ ABOUT S&W, ARE USUALLY NOT ABOUT CUSTOMER SERVICE, PER SE......

RATHER, THEY REFER TO THE LACK OF QUALITY CONTROL, THAT ALLOWS OBVIOUSLY DEFECTIVE PRODUCTS, TO LEAVE THE FACTORY. SOMETIMES, THESE FIREARMS HAVE TO BE RETURNED, MORE THAN ONCE---BECAUSE THE CONDITION WAS NOT CORRECTED, DURING THE FIRST VISIT. THIS APPLIES TO THEIR HIGHLY TOUTED PERFORMANCE CENTER GUNS, AS WELL AS GUNS FROM THE REGULAR PRODUCTION LINE.....

AS I HAVE REMARKED, SEVERAL TIMES IN THE PAST---

IT APPEARS THAT THE QUALITY CONTROL FUNCTION AT S&W, HAS INCREASINGLY BECOME THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE END USERS, OF THEIR FIREARMS......

I think your perception is off -- and not by a little bit.

The complaints are almost exclusively on QC, and current product QC at that (not long out of production 3rd Gens)

Almost everyone universally agrees that S&W Customer Service is quite good, especially when they actually have the parts that are needed -- again, not something any of us should expect on long out of production guns.

I believe their current knowledge base on older guns is lacking, but I keep expectations low... literally talking 2-3-4 corporate owners ago.

Service

I have not had good luck with their CS. I have only had one dealing with them and after reading good reports on this forum I expected more. Should have set my sights lower.

Just a follow up with a happy ending.
The recoil spring arrived in Tuesday's mail.

Many thanks to S&W customer service for the couldn't find anywhere Chiefs Special 45 recoil spring.

I traded for a BG38 Bodyguard that was having FTF 1 in 5 rounds, sent in to S&W on their dime, they worked on it but didn't fix the problem, called them and they said send it back, once again on their dime. This time they replaced the cylinder, firing pin and spring and it now shoots like it's supposed to, no FTF. No charge. Doesn't get better than that. Starting to really enjoy the little Bodyguard, carries nice and shoots really accurate for a snub, plus handles +P.
