I have a S&W Hand Ejector Serial Number C 408xxx it is a 38 S&W special ctg with a 4 inch barrel and it has fixed sights. I would like to know the year of manufacture and if any loads other than standard loads such as +p or higher are safe to use sparingly such as for personal defense. Thank you. :

thank you. this gun is like new tighter than dicks hat band do you know if it is safe to shoot +p sparingly for defense

Yours is a pre-Model 10 M&P. At about SN C438000, it became the Model 10. As has been covered many, many, many times here, +P just ain't that hot, and can be used without harm in virtually any M&P made after WWI. However, for 99+% of the time, lead-bullet ammunition is fully adequate for recreational and practice purposes, and is much cheaper.
