Warm and wet "Howdy y'all" from Texas.

I am a new Smith and Wesson owner as of this afternoon.
in passing my brother-in-law has "given" me two revolvers.

I am not new to firearms but mostly on WWII rifles and Semi Autos Browning pistols like the Hi-Power Mk II

in quick because I need to figure out where to ask questions about one of the two revolvers I inherited.

one is a model 586, .357 magnum blue nothing special about it.
the other a Model 58 nickel .41 Magnum (see other post about questions on it)

so the adventure begins.!

Welcome from Mississippi! We're going through a dry spell, so send some rain this way. You've come to the right place to get answers; lots of S&W expertise. I don't pretend to be an expert.

Sorry for your loss.
Your BIL's S&W's do show that he had good taste in revolvers!
And a 2nd Tennessee Welcome to the forum! I'm in the western part of the state.

Welcome from Almost Heaven. The 586 should be a good shooter. They are popular. The 58 is not rare, but not commonly seen in the gun stores used cases. Made from 1964 to 1977. Nickel finish is the rarest.
