Hello. Not trying to make this more confusing, I would like to add my two cents.
Since your friend is not an experienced shooter, I would definitely suggest a J frame hammer gun, such as a Model 36 or 60, either straight or a "Lady Smith ". I think that the Lady Smith series would have a lighter double action, which could be better for her legally, in the event that she has to use her revolver and ends up in court. It would be better to have a factory standard lighter trigger pull than one that is lightened by a local gunsmith.
When it comes to ammo, until she gains experience, I think that she should work with 148gr wadcutter loads, light recoil with a 38 caliber metplat that will induce a high level of shock and punch a nice hole that should bleed freely. Once she develops some experience and self confidence, I would suggest the Hornady Critical Defense non +P 38s.
